To whomever finds this book be warned you may meet the same fate. I too was lured by a sense of adventure to explore places I know I should never have dared to enter. Warning was given to me by a dark spirit guide. Salems Marsh holds many dark secrets, but most are buried deep in Salems Marsh Asylum*. Now I await my end and only leave behind this last ghost story.
Salems Marsh Asylum was a dumping ground for all category of the insane. Some were the unfortunate with nowhere else to go - committed here by family who only wanted them forgotten. Most were twisted, violent homicidal maniacs. At one time it was thought to be a bright and sparkling sanctuary for those lost in madness but as unfortunate events unfolded it was discovered that Salems Marsh Asylum was a place of unspeakable horrors. Pity the unfortunate souls who were abandoned here. The Asylum was run by the Administrator, Mardis Salem. Tracing her history I submit to you dear reader that she is a demon herself.
Deep below the Asylum is a Pit and the entryway to Purgatory. I have met the Gatekeeper and found no way out of his realm of madness. Salems Marsh Asylum was evil before it became the Asylum, it was many things before and will be many things long after you and I.
Committed to the Asylum was a young girl. According to all accounts she had savagely attacked her parents. After preliminary observations it could only be determined that she was a purely evil psychopath. At every opportunity she would scratch, kick, and bite those nearby. Eventually a sack was put over her head. Not only was the bag necessary to protect from her viciousness but some actually thought she could compel others thoughts and actions by looking at them. The doctor in charge of patient care began experiments on this girl and a handful of other "special" patients he believed to possess "dark energy". He wanted to harness their evil and was himself in league with a demon. All of this was a recipe for disaster.
One night the doctor and the demon set forth a plan. Staff and patients were given a powerful hallucenagetic and rage producing drug. Chaos and terror ensued at the Asylum. Horror you could never imagine. It went on for days before authorities became aware of it. By then it was too late for the inmates and staff. No one was found alive. The scene was so hideous that some investigators left their profession for good.
Not all were accounted for. The bodies of the so called "special" inmates were never found and also missing was the asylum Doctor and the Administrator, Mardis Salem. Although the Asylum was built like a fortress perhaps they escaped. However, the Asylum doors and windows were all still securely locked and bolted. Escape would have been difficult, it not impossible.
The Asylum was abandoned after the bloodshed and after quite a long time even the road to get to it became overgrown with brush and fallen trees. The Salems Marsh Asylum was forgotten.
The girl, the evil child, escaped harm during the bloody, deadly riot at the Asylum. She found refuge in a secret passageway behind a wall. There was a staircase that led to a hidden attic space. It was here that she hid and waited for rescue. You see once she entered that space, the stone walls closed and could not be opened from where she was. She was trapped.
The attic had no windows, however it was a room with very high ceilings and a glass dome some 20 feet above her. There was no way to reach the glass dome, and no way out of the attic. Days passed by and without food or water she couldn't survive. Her cries for help went unheard behind the thick walls. No one knew she was there. She died on the attic floor under the giant dome window. Her last moments spent in a rage cursing the mortal world and vowing revenge.
Years, then decades passed. The Asylum was freezing cold during the long winter months, and the attic sweltered in heat during the long hot days of summer. Her body would freeze, then thaw over and over again. After so many years all that remained was a puddle. Finally all that was left of the evil child was a dark stain on the floor, the bones long ago turned to dust and fallen into the cracks of the floor.
The spirit of the evil child still roams these haunted realms. She is filled with such rage that no one came for her and that she died alone and in such misery. No soul is safe from her wrath. The attic room is her domain. If you value your soul do not venture there.
My time has come and with my last bit of strength I can only warn you of this evil girl that roams these tunnels and corridors. Do whatever you must to escape this haunted realm.
