Mardis Salem saw what the future would hold many centuries before. Knowing this she removed several pages from The Book of Mardis and hid them away without telling a living soul. The missing pages would have stayed hidden but Mardis was able to pass on the secret hiding place through her telepathic link with the zombies. Before her body was destroyed she sent out one last message. That message told where the hidden pages were.
