As you walk towards the dog, it spins around 3 times (for goodluck) before throwing itself on the ground and rolling on it's back.
"Well???? Are you going to do it or not! HELLO! Don't just stand there. Get down here and rub my tummy. That's better. You're pretty good at this. You must have a dog back there in Mortal-land. You have to watch your step here in Purgatory. We have lots of new arrivals but few departures. Most everybody wants out of here but we just don't have the transportation to meet the demand. So these souls start wanting to cut in line, just like in the supermarkets and on the highways back in the Land of the Living. They start tricking each other and try to knock other souls off The Crossroads. Then you've got the Soul Brokers that will tell you they can book passage out of here for you but the price is your soul. Of course you never get your passage and without your soul you just become a Sand Shadow. It's pretty cut-throat here, just like back in the land of the mortal. They think waiting at airports and rush hour traffic is bad -- just wait till they get here. Talk about delay!
I try to hang out here and give folks fair warning about the nature of Purgatory. And I get alot of tummy rubs by doing that. Anyway, you just stay on The Crossroads and be careful. Hopefully I'll see you at the Sanctuary. One of these days when my master gets here we'll leave this part of Purgatory together.
Thanks for the tummy rub. I've got a new bone to bury at the Sanctuary so I better get going. Lot's of bones to be found in Purgatory! Hey, I have something for you. I give these out to all the Newcomers. It's a key. Don't know what it opens but I think it's important so don't lose it!"
And with that the dog gets up, picks up it's towel and follows The Crossroads. On the ground is a key that is shaped like the Ankh, a symbol of enduring life.
