You decide to keep traveling on your own. Having the dog might slow you down and you would also have to share your food and water supplies. You drive off alone. In your rearview mirror you see headlights several miles behind you. It's no doubt marauders. The truck and it's occupants will keep them busy for awhile. Ahead a gravel road crosses the highway. It leads to a forest area with plenty of places to hide a vehicle. Now you can fix the flat tire and maybe get some much needed rest and food. You light a small campfire and fall asleep. Your sleep is interruped by a gut wrenching pain in your shoulder. You open your eyes only to see a maggot infested face above yours and other similar faces that surround you. ZOMBIES. It was a mistake to leave the dog behind. Dogs hate zombies. Not only would the dog have alerted you to the danger, it would have successfully killed the goons once and for all.
